Ft. Worth, Texas is widely known for a vibrant and well-supported fine arts community.  The Kimball Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum are presenting three exhibits running through January 2019, and y’all, Ft. Worth Brings Fashion.

At the Kimball Art Museum , there are two exhibits presented simultaneously.

Ft. Worth Brings Fashion Balenciaga and Goya Exhibits

The first, is Balenciaga in Black.  According to the Kimball Art Museum’s web site, “Often called “the couturier’s couturier,” Balenciaga is the designer most revered by other fashion designers. From his first runway collection in 1937 through the closure of his Paris salon in 1968, Balenciaga had as his clients some of the most influential trendsetters of the day. Balenciaga in Black features more than one hundred pieces from the collections of the Palais Galliera, the City of Paris’s museum of fashion, and from the Archives Balenciaga. The carefully selected costumes and accessories, all made by hand in the haute-couture ateliers of this fashion genius, share one major feature: they are all black.”

“For Balenciaga, black was more than a color or even a noncolor; it was a vibrant matter, by turns opaque or transparent, matte or shiny—a dazzling interplay of light, showcased as much through the luxurious quality of the fabrics as through the simplicity of a garment’s cut. From the never-before-seen black prototypes to the most abstract forms from his later collections, Balenciaga’s use of infinite shades of black emphasizes the essential shapes, dense volumes, and astonishing silhouettes of his unique creations. His timeless and expertly executed clothes, with impeccably composed adornments of lace, embroidery, silk, satin, fringes, beads, and sequins, continue to inspire modern fashion.”

Ft. Worth Brings Fashion Balenciaga !960's Coat and Dress

Most of the amazing dresses and coats are from the 1950’s and 1960’s…and each is simply fabulous.  As a collector of 1960’s Vintage, I would love to own ANY piece in the exhibit!  There are also hats and necklaces on display.

Both exhibits run through January 6, 2019.

Ft. Worth Brings Fashion Goya Exhibit

The second exhibit at the Kimball Art Museum is Goya in Black and White.  According to the Kimball Art Museum web site, “Francisco de Goya y Lucientes is among the best-known figures in the history of Spanish art and renowned as one of the greatest painters of all time. He is also revered as one of history’s greatest draftsmen and printmakers. This exhibition will showcase more than seventy-five of his paramount works on paper from the unparalleled collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Goya in Black and White will explore the evolution of the artist’s graphic work in all media.”  The works are in Ft. Worth thanks to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Ft. Worth Brings Fashion Modern Art Museum Sculpture

Never fear, fashionistas…Ft. Worth Brings Fashion just a few steps away, at the Modern Art Museum.  Sponsored by Harper’s Bazaar, Jimmy Choo, and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Laurie Simmons Big Camera/Little Camera is a fascinating exhibit.  This exhibition showcases the artist’s photographs spanning the last four decades, from 1976 to the present, a small selection of sculpture, and two films.

Ft. Worth Brings Fashion Laurie Simmons Doll Furniture

According to the Modern Art Museum web site, “Simmons’s career-long exploration of archetypal gender roles, especially women in domestic settings, is the primary subject of this exhibition and is a topic as poignant today as it was in the late 1970s, when she began to develop her mature style by using props and dolls as stand-ins for people and places. Often isolating the dolls and photographing them situated in tiny, austere settings, Simmons uses fictional scenes to make observations about real life. ”
