Very soon, I’ll be headed to NYC for an extra-long weekend. I’m literally counting down the days…it’s been WAY too long since I last wandered through the city that is endlessly entertaining to me. And on this trip, I have a big ol’ list of things to do, sites to see, restaurants I’m going to try, and today, I’m sharing with you 3 New Places I’m planning to go in NYC.
Here’s the interesting thing about Blogging. I’ve always loved to travel. Y’ll know that about me. Traveling is much more than a vacation. In fact, vacation is really a word I never use, because vacation, for me, connotes rest and relaxation. And y’all know from this post, I’m a walk-until-you-drop kind of traveller. So now, as a Travel Blogger, I for sure want to see the familiar places I love, eat in the restaurants I know are fantastic. But I also want to make space for seeing new places, going to new neighborhoods, eating at new restaurants, and then sharing all my discoveries with you!
So, here’s the 3 New Places I’m going to investigate on my next trip to NYC:
Rooftop Bars

My husband has been sober for 28 years, so he’s not ever looking for the next cool place to have an end-of-day-cocktail….but I am! But he gladly joins me, most of the time. It’s so hot in Texas in the summer, I marvel at the Brave who dine and eat outside, when the temperature at 10 p.m. is still in the 90’s. Usually, in New York, the evenings cool off, and adult beverages with a bird’s eye view of Manhattan are always a fun way to wind down a long day. One spot I’m interested to check out is Hotel Hugo’s Rooftop Bar: Azul on the Rooftop. The pictures look totally awesome, and the Cuban-inspired drinks and eats in the heart of SoHo look like the perfect summer-time combo! Also, Pod 39 Hotel in Murray Hill looks super cool! I need to check it out!
Any suggestions for other roof-top spots? Leave me a comment!!! I do know where I’ll be staying….want to know my favorite hotels? Click on the image below, to get your FREE NYC Hotel Guide!
A New Museum or Historic Home

Of course I always want to make time to see my favorite museums, like the American Folk Art Museum I wrote about in this post, or the MET, which I wrote about in this post. But I want to make time to discover new places. For example, I’m fascinated by Governor’s Island. In particular, I want to see Ft. Jay and Castle Williams. Who’s already been? Share your tips with me in the comments!
Also, I just learned about The Van Cortlandt House Museum. Ride the 1 Train all the way up to the 242 Station (you can too…I gave you a NYC subway tutorial in this post), and easily walk to this historic home in the Bronx.
The Curious Cowgirl needs more info! Give me the scoop in the comments!
A New Neighborhood

My husband I have our favorite neighborhoods in NYC, for sure! In fact, I am, as we speak, writing detailed Travel Guides for some of the most fun, funky and fabulous neighborhoods in New York. One area I have really not explored is the East Village. Tell me what you love most about the East Village….is it Tompkins Square Park, an awesome boutique, vintage clothing store, restaurant or bar….bring it people!
I need your East Village favorites! Drop me a comment!
OK….I’m getting out my suitcase, and making a detailed plan for NYC. That’s how I roll….I’ll update you on what I discover, I promise!

Love this! We JUST returned from NYC and visited the historic Morris-Jumal Mansion in the Washington Heights neighborhood north of Harlem. We also had a wonderful meal at the Blue Water Grill across from Union Square. And we loved the cookies at Schmackery’s on W 45th of course!
Elizabeth, you are always a GREAT resource for fun things to do in NYC! Thank you!!!!!
The Roof Top Bar at the Met? Recommended but I haven’t been.
For a real hoot of a southern breakfast, try Amy Ruth’s in Harlem. I had the Al Sharpton special! 126th Street
